A house that would have pleased a restlessness' theoric like Bruce Chatwin, one of the last true travel writers and flaneur, for his literature pace almost hatched by fate, his valence of mosaic and sensations, fragrances of distant lands and atmospheres of yesteryear that embodies on iself.
The outline of Villa Elia is both serene and geometric, strong and castle-like: the main door set in ashlar masonry, beating the date 1795, the airy succession of internal spaces – nearly 1,000 sqm in total – is set out on two floors.
Villa Elia has recently been restored and refurbished, respecting the original structure and leaving the volumes unchanged.
The furniture and fittings reveal a pattern of aesthetic nuances and brings together family heirlooms and objects collected around the world with objects from the old Brown's Hotel in London, before its renovation.
The majority of the objects that have come together here in a common theme come from distant lands, from traditions and geographical areas diametrically opposed: polychrome African sculptures, Dogon masks, carpets from the Queen Rania Foundation, Afghan pieces next to 20th Century display cabinets in painted wood.
